Little Sprouts Gisborne aims to ensure all babies get the best start in life by giving away free baby packs with “everything a new-born baby needs to be healthy, safe and warm”.
These packs go to families in Gisborne who are in real need.
Little Sprouts work with Gisborne Midwives, social workers, Plunket nurses and the Gisborne hospital to deliver their service.
Around half of the Little Sprouts pack items are provided from local donation – items that are either new or in excellent second-hand condition.
The other half is made up of donations from business supporters, sponsorships and local crafters (knit and sewing volunteers).
The packs are worth about $1000 each.
Each pack may include merino sleep bags, digital thermometers, smoke alarms, socket covers, baby board books and reusable nappies.
“Since Little Sprouts began 18 months ago, we have given out 90 packs to our local community. Having financial support from Trust Tairāwhiti has meant that we are able to continue to stock our packs with quality, practical items for our families. I really can’t express our gratitude enough for this support.”
