Horahia Te Tau Annual Report 2023/24
A summary of the Trusts activities, achievements and financial statements for the year end 2024
The Trust Tairāwhiti Annual Report 2023/24 is now available online, ahead of the organisation’s Annual General Meeting on 15 August.
The report outlines the Trust’s key activities from the year across its three strategic functions: community development, economic development and investing.
This year marked a significant milestone for the organisation, as it granted a record $12.3 million to 118 community groups and initiatives—the most distributed in a year since the Trust’s inception in 1993.
The report showcases a few of the community funding recipients, including Hikurangi Enterprises, Turanga Health and Ngata Memorial College. All applications are assessed against the Trust’s wellbeing framework, He Rangitapu He Tohu Ora, to ensure meaningful outcomes for our communities.
As the regional Economic Development Agency, a key focus was supporting businesses post-cyclone and, more recently, through the challenges of an economic downturn. We worked with more than 140 businesses through the Regional Business Partnership programme (RBP) and supported 51 businesses through Callaghan Innovation.
Fostering innovation, technology and future skills development is a strategic focus, and we’ve worked with regional partners on investment opportunities to diversify the economy. The annual report showcases the Porou Miere mānuka honey extraction facility in Te Araroa, which opened in February. It’s the result of a partnership between Nāti Growth, Trust Tairāwhiti and Whetumatarau B45B, to sustainably develop the mānuka industry and provide greater economic returns for beekeepers, whānau, iwi and hapu across the rohe.
As the Regional Tourism Organisation, the Trust has focused on developing Tairāwhiti as a visitor destination by supporting local product development and showcasing our unique attractions. Key activities throughout the year included implementing the Tairāwhiti Destination Management Plan, maximising cruise ship opportunities and delivering a regional marketing campaign.
In line with our wellbeing framework, we continue to measure the impact of Trust investments. We carried out the second annual Tairāwhiti Wellbeing Survey in 2023 to support this work. The survey aims to improve our local data and better understand the wellbeing of our people. More than 800 people across the region responded to the survey, resulting in valuable data and insights that are publicly available on tairawhitidata.nz.
The 2023/24 Annual Report, along with the full financial statements for the year, is available on the Trust website, and hard copies are available from the Trust office.
The Trust’s AGM will be held at Midway Surf Club Community Hub on 15 August, starting at 5.30pm. It will also be live-streamed.
To attend the AGM in person, RSVP.
