This is a key advisory role supporting the delivery of destination marketing activity for Gisborne.
About the role
As Destination Marketing Advisor, you will work closely with the Regional Destination Manager and destination team to develop and deliver marketing initiatives aligned to the Destination Management Plan. You will provide specialist marketing advice and hands-on delivery across consumer and trade marketing, digital channels, media and PR, and partnership activity.
You will support the implementation of integrated marketing programs across domestic and international markets, using consumer insights, data and performance reporting to help refine activity and respond to changing visitor behaviour and market trends.
This role is highly collaborative, working across the destination team, economic development and communications functions, and with a wide range of external partners including Tourism New Zealand, industry bodies, inbound operators and local tourism businesses. You will also contribute to the stewardship and evolution of the Tairāwhiti Gisborne brand, ensuring consistency and quality across all marketing touchpoints.
Reporting to the Regional Destination Manager, this role is ideal for an experienced marketer who enjoys combining strategic thinking with practical delivery and stakeholder engagement.
About you
You are a capable and motivated marketing professional with experience delivering integrated marketing activity and providing sound marketing advice. You bring a proactive, organised approach and enjoy working in a dynamic, purpose-led environment.
You will ideally bring:
• 5+ years’ experience in marketing, with strong campaign and project delivery experience
• Experience delivering integrated marketing across digital, media and content channels
• Experience in tourism or destination marketing (an advantage but not essential)
• Strong digital marketing capability, including websites, SEO, social media and content
• Experience coordinating external suppliers and partners
• Sound financial skills, including managing campaign budgets
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret performance data
• Highly developed relationship and stakeholder management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Cultural competence, including experience working with tikanga Māori and iwi
