Funding FAQ's
Can I apply to more than one fund?
Generally, no. Applications should be submitted to the fund that best matches the primary outcome of your project.
If your project could align with more than one fund, our team can help guide you to the most appropriate funding pathway.
What are the reporting requirements?
All successful applicants must report back on how funding was used and the outcomes achieved.
This may include:
- a report or summary of outcomes
- financial information or proof of spend
- key results or next steps
Reporting requirements and timeframes vary depending on the fund and the nature of the application.
What happens if my application is successful?
If your application is approved:
- you’ll receive a funding agreement outlining the funding amount and conditions
- funding will be released in line with that agreement
- you’ll be required to report on how the funding was used and what was achieved
What happens if my application is unsuccessful?
We receive more applications than we are able to support. If your application isn’t successful, we’ll let you know.
You may wish to explore other funding opportunities or refine your project for a future application.
Why might I be contacted after applying?
We may get in touch during the assessment process to request additional information or clarification to support your application.
How are applications assessed?
All applications are assessed consistently against eligibility requirements, Trust strategic priorities, and He Rangitapu He Tohu Ora, our Tairāwhiti wellbeing framework.
Applications are reviewed by advisors and decision-makers, and we may contact you if further information is needed.
How long does it take to get a decision?
Timeframes vary depending on the fund and the amount requested.
Some applications are assessed regularly throughout the year, while larger or more complex applications may take longer and are considered at set times.
You can find current timeframes on each fund page.
Do I need co-funding?
Co-funding is encouraged for some funds and can strengthen your application by showing wider support.
Co-funding may include:
- funding from other grants or organisations
- partner contributions
- sponsorship or philanthropic support
- fundraising by the applicant
Requirements vary depending on the fund and the scale of your project.
Who can I contact if I have questions?
Yes — we encourage you to get in touch if you’d like to discuss your idea before applying.
We’re happy to help determine whether your project is a good fit and guide you through the process.
Can individuals apply?
Applications must be submitted by a legal entity, such as a trust, company, or incorporated society.
If you want to apply but are not part of an organisation, you may wish to partner with an organisation that can apply on your behalf.
How much funding can I apply for?
You’ll need to provide information about your initiative, event, or feasibility project, including:
- a clear description and intended outcomes
- a budget or financial information
- supporting documents (such as quotes, plans, or proposals)
- your NZBN or Charities number (if applicable)
- bank account verification
Some funds may require additional information depending on the application. Please read the relevant application guidelines.
What if my project could fit more than one fund?
Some projects may contribute to multiple outcomes. In these cases, applications will be assessed based on the main purpose and expected outcomes of your project.
If you’re unsure which fund is the best fit, we encourage you to get in touch before applying.
When does my project or event need to start?
Projects and events should be planned to start after funding has been approved. We don’t fund retrospective applications for projects or events that have already taken place.
Funding is typically released in line with agreed timelines or milestones set out in your funding agreement.
Do I need to acknowledge Trust Tairāwhiti funding?
Yes, it helps with transparency for the community about what the Trust supports. Successful applicants are expected to acknowledge Trust Tairāwhiti support in communications such as event materials, media, reports, and social media.
