In the August funding round, just over $190k in distributions were approved by Trust Tairāwhiti.
Tairāwhiti Multicultural Council were the largest funding recipient, receiving $50k towards their shared community space. The space supports more than 51 organisations and recorded just over 6,400 visits over the past year. Funding will help ensure the hub remains accessible to the diverse ethnic and cultural communities, groups and organisations it supports at no cost.
Pasifika Digital Knowledge Trust was the second-largest recipient, receiving $30k for the Rangatahi Futures hub. The hub is a rangatahi-led, culturally grounded programme that will support rangatahi aged 15-24 through monthly leadership wānanga, mentoring, community projects, enterprise and employment pathway support.
Other community fund recipients:
- Rongopai Marae: $28.8k towards commissioning its AMBR50 wastewater treatment plant, the final stage of a six-year wharepaku and septic redevelopment project.
- Koniahi Ltd: $10k to support the delivery of two rangatahi media wānanga in Ruatoria and Tokomaru Bay.
- Ngā Maia Trust: $10k to support its 2026 Hui Ā-Tau at Whāngārā Marae, including promoting midwifery careers to local rangatahi and young māmā.
- Auckland District Kidney Society: $10k to support the continued delivery of its free wraparound support services to Tairāwhiti locals living with kidney disease.
- Te Kura Poutama Charitable Trust: $9k to support six Ngāti Porou wānanga to reconnect, inspire, educate and uplift its people through sport.
Feasibility fund recipients:
- AgFirst Gisborne Ltd: $28k for the Tairāwhiti Regional Ungulate Management Business Case, aiming to coordinate a regional response to the impacts of deer, goats and pigs across farms, forestry, whenua Māori, conservation land and affected communities. The study will assess the scale of the issue, evaluate control options and identify a delivery, governance and funding model.
- Taiao Huru Huri Ltd: $23.5k to support phase one of a feasibility study for Mahere Ngāhere, a proposed forestry and land-use planning platform for Tairāwhiti.
All successful projects and initiatives supported were evaluated against the Trust’s wellbeing framework, He Rangitapu He Tohu Ora, to ensure they lead to meaningful outcomes for Tairāwhiti.
