Trust Tairāwhiti approved more than $214k in funding in its most recent funding round.

High School Old Boys Sports Club will receive the largest distribution, totalling $60.5k, for urgent clubhouse repairs. This includes asbestos removal from the ceiling and infrastructure upgrades to ensure the facility is safe and operational.

Riverdale School will receive $41.8k to help build an inclusive playground designed to better support its neurodiverse students, with features designed to support safe play, self-regulation, movement and sensory needs.

Other funding recipients:

  • Music Education Tairāwhiti/Gisborne International Music Competition Charitable Trust: $20k to run the 2026 Community Engagement Programme, offering free music and arts education for local rangatahi, teachers and communities.
  • Waikanae Surf Lifesaving Club: $16k towards a covered trailer to transport and store IRB rescue equipment.
  • Tairāwhiti Whenua Charitable Trust: $15k for a community East Cape Flood Relief Day in Te Araroa on 31 July, to support those affected by severe weather events.
  • Makarika School: $13k towards a shared fleet of bicycles and secure storage.
  • Te Araroa and District Progressive Association Inc: $12.3k to deliver the Matakaoa Christmas Parade and Easter in the Park.
  • The Makorori Environmental Protections: $12.1k to deliver a coastal restoration programme.
  • Alzheimers Gisborne Tairāwhiti: $10k to support the organisation’s community programmes.
  • Gisborne Rowing Club: $8.3k to replace eight ageing cox boxes, used to communicate with rowers, improving safety and reliability during training and competition.
  • Wāhine Kai Gatherers: $5k towards a programme teaching water safety, ocean skills and sustainable kai gathering for wāhine in Tairāwhiti.

All successful funding applications aligned strongly with the Trust’s wellbeing framework, He Rangitapu He Tohu Ora.
