Kaimahi from Trust Tairāwhiti partnered with the Women's Native Tree Project Trust on Friday as part of an all-staff volunteer morning.
Half the team spent the morning weeding around young native trees on Titirangi, while others planted seedlings at the EIT rural campus nursery.
"It was great having extra help weeding around our native trees and potting up at the nursery," says Kauri Forno from the Women's Native Tree Project Trust.
"The volunteers brought fantastic energy, which helps us continue to do our mahi in the community. It was a win-win for team bonding and te taiao."
The Women's Native Tree Project Trust has been active in Tairāwhiti for 33 years, working to recloak Papatūānuku with native flora. They collect and grow ecosourced seed from across Tairāwhiti, gifting rākau to community spaces including schools, marae and council reserves.
Trust Tairāwhiti staff were grateful for the opportunity to support the group's mahi and contribute to the ongoing restoration of the region's ngahere.
