Trust Tairāwhiti has confirmed the appointment of two experienced management companies to oversee hotel operations and commercial properties within the Emerald precinct, ahead of settlement in mid-November.
Last month, the Trust announced the acquisition of the Emerald Hotel and neighbouring properties as a strategic investment to support city centre revitalisation and wider regional economic activity.
Pillar Hotel Management has been appointed to manage the Emerald Hotel, while APM Commercial will oversee the precinct’s commercial properties, including leasing, tenant relationships and facilities management.
The appointments mark an important step in the transition to Trust ownership, providing specialist expertise to manage day-to-day operations while longer-term planning continues.
Pillar Hotel Management Managing Director Ronnie Ronalde will work closely with newly appointed Emerald Hotel General Manager Andrew Rhoades to oversee hotel operations.
Ronnie brings extensive hotel and tourism industry experience, including senior leadership roles with CPG Hotels and the development of the Fable Hotels & Resorts brand and Heritage Boutique Collection.
“We’re excited to be involved in the next chapter for the Emerald Hotel and to support its contribution to a vibrant city centre,” says Mr Ronalde.
“Our initial focus is on a smooth transition, supporting the hotel team and providing a great experience. We look forward to building on the hotel’s offering and contributing to the wider visitor economy.”
APM Commercial will manage the precinct properties and commercial tenancies, and engage with businesses interested in leasing opportunities.
The precinct includes a mix of commercial spaces, with potential to attract businesses and activities that contribute to a more vibrant city centre and riverfront.
“We’re looking forward to working with existing tenants and connecting with businesses interested in being part of the precinct,” says Danushka Hettiarachchi of AMP Commercial.
“This is a prominent location with significant potential. Our focus will be on supporting our tenants, managing the properties professionally, and exploring commercial opportunities that help strengthen the precinct over time.”
Trust Tairāwhiti General Manager Economic Development Hayden Green says the appointments reflect the Trust’s commitment to a smooth ownership transition and to achieving strong commercial and community outcomes from its investment.
“Having experienced operators in place gives us confidence that the hotel and commercial properties will be well managed as we assess their longer-term potential.
“The Trust’s role is as property owner and strategic investor. With independent specialists managing day-to-day operations and commercial opportunities, we can ensure a fair and consistent approach that supports commercial outcomes.”
Businesses and operators interested in opportunities within the precinct are encouraged to contact the relevant management company directly. Commercial property and leasing enquiries should be directed to APM Commercial, while hotel-related enquiries should be directed to Pillar Hotel Management.
